First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Brentwood: Professional Preparation and Filing Support

Your company’s first set of statutory accounts can feel like unfamiliar ground, particularly when you are still working out how the company trades, what records you need to keep and what Companies House expects from a newly incorporated business. Micro Entity Accounts supports newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Brentwood with First Year Accounts for Limited Company preparation that begins with a careful review of the accounting records you hold — bank transactions, sales and income, business expenses, asset purchases, share capital and director transactions — and ends with a set of accounts ready to be delivered to Companies House where required. If your company also has Corporation Tax obligations, those sit with HMRC and are dealt with separately, typically through a CT600, and we can explain how that process differs from the accounts filing rather than treating the two as one exercise.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company? A Guide for Limited Companies in Brentwood

First year accounts are the opening set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its first accounting period. In practice, they cover the period running from incorporation to the company’s first accounting reference date, and they are drawn up using the reporting framework that applies to that company for that period. Where a company meets the applicable eligibility requirements, that framework may be the micro-entity regime, with FRS 105 as the financial reporting standard for qualifying entities. Eligibility is assessed against the conditions for the relevant accounting period and should never be assumed — some newly incorporated companies qualify, others do not, and the appropriate framework is confirmed before preparation begins. These accounts are not optional simply because the company is new. Incorporation brings statutory reporting responsibilities, and those responsibilities exist whether or not trading has started, sales have been made or a profit has been generated. First year accounts are usually delivered to Companies House where required, while a company’s Corporation Tax position is reported separately to HMRC, normally by way of a CT600. Preparing and filing the accounts does not submit a Corporation Tax Return, and filing a CT600 does not complete the Companies House accounts obligation. Both processes may draw on the same accounting information, but they have different purposes and different destinations. It is worth understanding three things that are often confused with first year accounts: • Corporation Tax Returns and CT600 submissions, which go to HMRC and are governed by HMRC requirements. • Confirmation statements, which confirm that the company’s details held at Companies House remain accurate and are a separate filing in their own right. • VAT Returns, which apply only where the company is registered for VAT and are filed separately from the annual accounts. On timing, the first accounting period normally runs from the date of incorporation to a first accounting reference date set when the company is formed. That period can be longer than twelve months, which is one reason the first year is treated differently from later years. The deadline for delivering first accounts is worked out by reference to the accounting reference date rather than to any date the director chooses, so the exact date should always be checked against the company’s own Companies House record. A company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period may also not be identical, which is why directors in Brentwood are often better off confirming both positions early rather than working to a single assumed date.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Brentwood Prepared Properly

When a company has only recently been incorporated, the practical questions tend to arrive together: which records need to be pulled together, which reporting framework applies, what actually has to be sent to Companies House, and how that fits alongside any Corporation Tax work. Micro Entity Accounts works with directors of newly formed and newly trading limited companies in Brentwood to prepare first-year statutory accounts from the underlying accounting records, review the figures before anything is finalised, and support the filing process where required, on clear pricing with no hidden costs. Directors remain responsible for ensuring the company meets its obligations, but professional accounts preparation takes the technical work off your desk and gives you a reliable set of figures to work from. Speak to us about your first accounting period and what needs to happen next.

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts a company prepares, covering its initial accounting period from incorporation through to its first accounting reference date. They typically include a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where applicable, together with the notes and statements required by the reporting framework the company uses. They are prepared from the company's accounting records and are generally delivered to Companies House where required. They are not the same document as a Corporation Tax Return, which is submitted separately to HMRC.

The first accounting period usually begins on the date of incorporation, and an initial accounting reference date is set when the company is formed. The deadline for delivering first accounts is calculated from that accounting reference date rather than from a date of your choosing, and the first period can be longer than twelve months. Because the calculation depends on your company's own incorporation details, the exact date should always be confirmed from its Companies House record. Any Corporation Tax Return deadline set by HMRC is a separate matter.

It depends on what the company has done during the period, but the starting point is normally complete accounting records: bank statements and transactions, sales and income records, business expense receipts and purchase invoices, details of any assets bought, share capital information, director loan activity, and any loans or finance arrangements. Where the company runs payroll or is registered for VAT, the relevant payroll and VAT records are also useful. Companies with very little activity in their first period may need to provide far less, and we will tell you what is relevant to your circumstances.

Not trading does not automatically remove the requirement to prepare and deliver statutory accounts. A company may still have a filing obligation for its first period even where activity has been limited or trading has not yet started. There is also an important difference between a company that has had no activity and one that has formally applied for dormant status — the reporting position depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules rather than on an assumption. If your Brentwood company has been quiet in its first period, it is worth confirming what applies before deciding nothing needs to be filed.

No, they are two separate pieces of compliance. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where the company has Corporation Tax obligations. The figures in the accounts often feed into the tax work, and the two are prepared close together, but filing one does not complete the other. A company's first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period may also not be identical, so both should be reviewed.

Some newly incorporated companies do meet the eligibility conditions for the micro-entity framework and can prepare simpler accounts under FRS 105, which is the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using that framework. Others do not, and small-company or fuller reporting may be more appropriate. Eligibility depends on the applicable requirements for the relevant accounting period and is not something to be assumed from a low level of income alone. We confirm the framework that fits your company before preparation starts.

Yes, if a confirmation statement is due. It is a separate filing from the accounts and serves a different purpose: it confirms the company information held at Companies House, such as directors, shareholders, share capital and registered office details. Delivering first-year accounts does not replace it, and submitting a confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts obligation. Keeping both on track means fewer surprises for directors of newly formed companies in Brentwood.

Where required accounts are delivered to Companies House after the applicable deadline, consequences can follow, and those may include penalties that increase the longer the accounts remain outstanding. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to prepare and deliver the accounts. If the accounts are already overdue, the most sensible step is usually to act promptly so the outstanding filing can be completed. Whether an appeal against a penalty is possible depends on the individual circumstances and the applicable rules.
