We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

When Can You File Dormant Company Accounts in Bradford On Avon?

Dormant company accounts are generally appropriate where a company has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. For Companies House purposes, a company may be considered dormant if it has not traded and has no other income or expenditure, such as bank interest. However, dormancy is not automatic – it depends on the company’s circumstances and the relevant statutory rules. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes while still having Corporation Tax obligations with HMRC. Importantly, dormant status does not automatically remove the requirement to file annual accounts or submit a confirmation statement. Our team can assess your position and confirm the documents you need to file, ensuring you meet your legal obligations while keeping the process as simple as possible.

A Company May Be Dormant If:

It has been incorporated but has not started trading.

Trading has stopped and the company has no relevant ongoing activity.

Its only transactions are those that Companies House disregards when determining dormancy.

It is being retained for a future business purpose, subject to its actual activities and transactions.

─── How It Works

How The Filing Works

01

Send us your company details

Give us your company number and accounting reference date. That is usually everything we need to begin.

02

We confirm dormant status

We review the period against the Companies Act definition of dormancy and flag any transaction that would rule it out.

03

You approve the accounts

We prepare the dormant accounts and send them for a director's approval by email. No paperwork or postage.

04

We file and confirm

Your accounts go to Companies House and HMRC is notified. You receive the filed copies and acceptance confirmation.

Dormant company accounts are annual statutory accounts prepared for a company that is dormant for accounting purposes. They show that the company has had no significant accounting transactions during the period and are filed with Companies House where required. Even a dormant company generally needs to submit accounts, though the level of detail may be simplified depending on eligibility.

Yes, in most cases a dormant company still needs to file annual accounts with Companies House. Dormant status does not automatically remove the filing obligation. Unless a specific exemption applies, you must prepare accounts and file them by the statutory deadline. Our accountants can confirm whether your company is required to file and assist with preparing the necessary documents.

Companies House and HMRC define dormancy differently. A company might be dormant for Companies House because it has no significant accounting transactions. For Corporation Tax, HMRC has its own rules – a company that is genuinely dormant for tax purposes may need to notify HMRC and may only stop submitting Corporation Tax Returns once HMRC confirms this. Filing dormant company accounts with Companies House does not automatically inform HMRC that the company is dormant for tax.

Yes. A confirmation statement is a separate filing with Companies House and is required at least once every 12 months. Filing dormant company accounts does not replace the confirmation statement. Dormant companies must keep their registered information up to date and submit a confirmation statement when one becomes due.

Some dormant companies may qualify as micro-entities and can use the micro-entity reporting framework, which offers a simpler set of accounts. Eligibility depends on the company’s size, legal structure and accounting period – not every dormant company automatically qualifies. If you meet the criteria, we can prepare your dormant accounts under the applicable micro-entity standard.

If a dormant company fails to file its required accounts by the applicable deadline, it may receive a late-filing penalty from Companies House. The consequence depends on the circumstances, and dormant status does not automatically protect a company from penalties. If you have received a penalty notice, we can review your position and assist with bringing your filing up to date – though a successful appeal depends on the specific facts and Companies House rules.

Yes. If your dormant company has missed previous filings, we can help you bring the accounts up to date and meet your Companies House obligations. This may involve preparing several years of dormant accounts and arranging submission. We will review your company’s history and guide you through the process without making assumptions about your eligibility.
